Research

My research in mathematics is focussed on three areas connected to operator theory:

  1. operator theory and signal processing,
  2. quantum computation.
  3. Von Neumann algebras and subfactor theory,

The questions I consider in these three areas share the common attribute that their underlying structure is determined by linear operators and the interplay and structure of collections of these operators. Collectively, this research is connected to a wide range of mathematical fields: subfactor theory, C* algebras, low dimensional topology, quantum field theory, statistical mechanics, signal, image and data processing, sampling theory, computational complexity theory.

In addition, I have an ongoing interest in aspects of computational neuroscience, particularly,

  1. the neural processing in the visual and auditory system.
